New Computer

Well, I finally bit the bullet and bought my first new computer since August 2006 (LINKY).

I am currently running an old HP dc7700 small form factor.  It still works well with a Core 2 Duo and 4GB RAM running Ubuntu.  However, it lacks the punch needed to run Windows in a virtual machine.  I wanted something in a small case with some punch.  Since Dell and HP are a little pricey, I decided to get a Shuttle system. Here are the specs:
  • Shuttle SH67H3 PC Barebone System
  • Intel Core i7-3770 Quad-Core Processor 3.4 GHz 4 Core LGA 1155
  • Asus Black 12X BD-ROM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-ROM SATA Internal Blu-Ray Drive
  • Corsair XMS3 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 1333 MHz
I installed Windows 7 just to run the performance test.  I was pleasantly surprised with the results.  This thing is going to scream once I get Ubuntu installed.  Fortunately, Ubuntu 14.04 should be released next week.  That gives me some time to get the SCSI card for the tape drive and TV tuner card installed.  I also thinking about installing a bluetooth card in the mini PCIe slot.
